Wool sheep are different than meat breed sheep. There are 100s of breeds of sheep in the world, selectively bred to thrive in specific climates. Like heritage seed varieties, heritage sheep are bred to produce wool and meat in the area that they grow in.
Xbred sheep thrive in our damp, mountainous climate
Joybilee Farm sheep are cross bred sheep — Romney x Rambouillet. Romney Marsh sheep have hardiness in damp climates, their long lustrous wool and great mothering instincts. Rambouillet have soft, fine wool and good flocking and mothering abilities. We breed for colour. Our fleeces are fine, soft and lustrous, averaging 4 inches in length, with great colour.
Our black sheep give us many colours of wool, from deep chocolate, to mocha and milk chocolate with silver tips, to silver-grey. The white fleece is beautiful, too. Both white and coloured wool take dyes with richness and shine.

Cross bred wool is a hand spinner’s wool — low in lanolin, easy to wash and card, and great to spin into a beautiful yarn. Have a look at the fleeces that we have available now.
Meat from our x bred animals has a mild flavour, very different from meat breed sheep. It is without the overpowering “lamb” aftertaste. It is a gourmet meat. If you think you don’t like “lamb” you might enjoy Joybilee Farm lamb, raised sustainably, on pasture without hormones or antibiotics.
Freezer lamb is available in the Fall. Average lamb weights are 45 to 50 lb, and provincially inspected. We sell out early so reserve your freezer lamb now for late October pick up.
